  Guidelines for Parents – Detention

1. Three demerits result in a detention. You will be notified by email and your child will be issued with a detention slip indicating the three warnings given. Details pertaining to the warnings and detention can also be viewed on the CBC website (www.cbcstjohns.co.za) – parents need to register for a username and password so that you can access your child’s information.
2. First detention is one hour long on a Friday afternoon. If your child is absent on a Friday that he / she was supposed to attend detention, then it will be postponed until the next Friday. Students who miss detention without being excused will have their detention time doubled. The only way a child can be excused is by means of a LETTER from a parent that is handed to Mr Booysen by Thursday at the latest. Parents may also email Mr Booysen the Thursday before on senyoob@webmail.co.za.
3. Second detention – Phase Heads will contact parents.
4. Second detention is 2 hours long on a Friday afternoon.
5. A third detention (also 2 hrs) will result in an internal disciplinary hearing and an additional 3 hour detention to be held on the last day of term.
6. Any infringement beyond this point will result in a disciplinary hearing with the Board of Governors.  
7. You have three methods of finding out about your child’s demerits (i.e. website, DT slip, ask your child). Teachers will not supply this information and no discussion / debate will be entered into with parents, regarding detentions.
