Our Christian Brothers heritage
CBC St John's forms part of a wider family of Christian Brothers schools in
South Africa and in the world today.
Our founder, an Irishman named Edmund Rice, was a wealthy businessman, a widower
and a parent. he lived at a time when many of his country were oppressed,
impoverished and had no access to education. He believed that the education was
the key to empowerment and social transformation.
He founded theCongragation of the Christian Brothers in Waterford in 1802 to
provide quality education for the materially poor. Over the past 200 years the
Christian Brothers have founded schoolsand colleges all over the globe and have
a rich heritage of humanitarian upliftment.
The Edmund Rice dream is shared by millions of teachers, students and parents
today. We believe that the greatest investment that we can make is to provide
our children with a strong values-based and holistic philosophy of education.
